UK destroyer returns home for repair after Yemeni attacks in Red Sea

London, IRNA – The British Defense Ministry says its warship HMS Diamond has left its mission in the Red Sea to undergo a period of maintenance after it came under fire in three separate attacks by Yemen’s naval forces.

In a statement released on Tuesday, the ministry said HMS Diamond joined the so-called Operation Prosperity Guardian in the Red Sea in December to “protect merchant shipping in the region” and maintained a near-constant presence in the “high threat area.”

It said the destroyer came under fire in three separate attacks by Ansarullah forces during its mission.

“HMS Diamond will now undergo a period of maintenance and resupply as HMS Richmond takes over her important mission,” said Defence Secretary Grant Shapps.

The US and Britain have been launching air raids on Yemen over the Arab country’s retaliatory attacks against Israeli-linked ships sailing in regional waters.

The government in Sana’a , which is run by the Ansarullah resistance movement, declared its support for Palestine since the Israeli regime launched the deadly war on Gaza on October 7.

Yemen has vowed to continue its retaliatory measures in the Red Sea until the Israeli regime ends ground and aerial offensives against Gaza that have killed over 27,000 people in the besieged territory.
